Early Childhood Education
Early Childhood Education
Early childhood education relies heavily on multi-level learning. In later years, kids are required to sit quietly in front of a book, learning through reading and disciplined note-taking. Learning at the high school level is primarily cerebral, and usually visual. Early childhood education, on the other hand, appeals to and engages children on a number of levels.
Kids are asked to sing along and dance to educational music. They look at flash cards, sound out words, draw pictures, and manipulate objects such as blocks or toys. Consider how young kids learn their ABCs. Chances are they sing and dance to the Alphabet Song, play with ABC blocks, read alphabet books and participate in a host of other activities and games designed to help them learn their ABCs. Along the way, they also practice their physical coordination, memorization skills, color recognition, hand-eye coordination and so on. Early childhood education is most successful when it engages the whole child, and not just one aspect of his or her cognition.
